Malmö Color Run

For months I have been planning to go to the Malmö Color Obstacle Rush Race and I even had my tickets bought since they first went on sale. Four other girls and myself had eagerly been awaiting the 5k race where we would run through inflatable obstacles, go down slides, and sprint through bubbles, all while being showered with powdered color. We all met up two hours before our race, picked up our shirts and race favors and started warming up. We didn’t really need to warm up because it was already 28 C (82 F) and we were sweating buckets the moment we stepped into the sun. We had to do the warm ups though because there was no way you could get us to not do them! Instead of running for fifteen minutes and doing stretches like I do before every race in Cross Country, we did Zumba while surrounded by two hundred other people preparing for the same heat in the race. I was breathing hard by the end and ready to run by the time they told us to start lining up. The actual race was long and hot, but extremely fun. We ran through obstacle after obstacle with my favorite being a giant inflatable climbing wall with three slides down the other side.

By the end of the race we were completely covered in bright colors. It wasn’t over yet though, we still had the dance party for all the runners who had finished. They played music and everyone was having a great time until before I knew it, all of the girls that I was there with were hopping on stage! I was a bit surprised and instead of joining them, I decided to take pictures. After a while of dancing, the announcer told everyone to get down really low and count down and on “one”, we all threw our color packets that we got at the end of the race in the air making an explosion of color rain down on all of us and fill the air. For just a few moments it was hard to breath, but that was by far one of the best parts of the event.

Afterwards, we all took a bus to Emporia to grab lunch and say goodbye to some exchange students that were going home. On the bus we got quite a few odd looks but also lots of smiles as people asked us why we were all basically walking rainbows.

Words of the Week

Color- Färg

Run- Springa

Dance- Dansa

Note- Because school is out in Alaska, I no longer have to write weekly blogs for an English grade, but now choose to write them as a way to preserve memories. Because of this, the quality of writing will most definetly be worse.
